Tournaments played on a Sunday 7

Sunday late afternoon is rapid time in the suburbs of Athens. Kallithea and Ilioupoli both start their numbered rapids at the same hour, Chalandri plays its Sunday tournaments in the clubroom, sometimes a rapid and sometimes a slower event for players under a rating limit, and the club of Pagkrati and Kaisariani holds its open rapid for all ages.

It is also the day of the young. Kifisia alternates a youth rapid and an adult rapid on Sundays, and the academy of Neo Psychiko plays its children’s rapid and its speed-chess arena in a school hall. In Ampelokipoi, Chess Square keeps Sunday for its monthly rapid and blitz. None of these is on every single Sunday: each is a dated edition of a series, announced a week or two ahead, so the organiser’s latest notice is what counts.
