Chess in Piraeus 5

Notes on this list

Piraeus has a chess club that carries the name of the port, Peiraikos Omilos Skakiston, the Piraeus chess players’ club. It holds seasonal rapids; the autumn one, the latest that was read, was a six-round Swiss on a Saturday afternoon. One thing to know before going: the club’s old website gives one address and the federation register and the recent notices give another, and the entry shows both.

Two neighbourhood associations have chess sections as well: Foivos in Kaminia, which plays in the cups of the Attica union, and Foinix in Agia Sofia, which announces a summer school championship of long standing. Piraeus is also where the final of the Attica individual school championship was played in March, after qualifiers in the sectors of the region. Keratsini, Nikaia and Korydallos, next door, are separate municipalities and have clubs of their own in this guide.
